Green Meetings

The Fredericton Convention Centre (FCC) is being constructed to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification. The building’s heating and air conditioning systems will utilize highly efficient, state of the art, ozone friendly equipment in conjunction with an automated building management system in order to achieve optimal environmental comfort and low energy costs within the complex. The FCC will make use of natural daylight where possible to enhance visitors’ enjoyment of the facility. Storm water from the site will be collected and used for non-potable water use (toilets, urinals, etc) within the complex. This will significantly reduce the amount of city water that will need to be supplied to the complex. Construction waste from the site is being recycled wherever possible. The Fredericton Convention Centre is located in the heart of Fredericton’s business district where delegates can walk to many tourist attractions, restaurants, and accommodations to decrease the need to commute.

In keeping with the City of Fredericton’s goal of being the first city in Canada to meet International Kyoto targets, the Fredericton Tourism Industry is developing a Meetings Tool Kit which will allow planners and industry partners alike to meet common green goals. The leadership team of the Fredericton Convention Centre will ensure the centre adheres to all healthy and green standards.
