Fredericton is leading the way among Canadian municipalities in progressive environmental policy. Its award winning Green Matters suite of programs, which includes public education for residents, business (Green Shops) and non-commercial entities (Green Matters Certified) is on target to make New Brunswick’s capital city a leader in greenhouse gas emission reduction and environmental sustainability. Whether its conservation efforts, buildings designed to meet LEED certification like the Fredericton Convention Centre or planning around active transportation networks, Fredericton is a global leader in the green movement.
A study released on September 26, 2011 by the World Health Organization (WHO) ranked the City of Fredericton eighth out of 1,100 cities across 91 countries for the cleanest air in the world. We add this to several previous awards, proving our claim of being smart and sustainable.
